Director of Software Development

The Director of Software Development will head a large engineering organization located locally. This leader will own the engineering vision of several product lines built out of this center and will provide leadership, direction and recommends strategy for the areas managed. This person will be responsible for building a team of highly qualified engineering managers and individual contributors belonging to both the development and quality engineering discipline. This person needs to be able to contribute at an architectural level, setting the technology direction, formulate the engineering roadmap and execute against committed project plans. This person will own parts of web services and internal tools and will have to partner with product management organization to understand business goals and translate these goals into a vision to be delivered with the desired time to market.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Manage architecture, design and development activities owned by the center, to build out the necessary technical solutions while delivering the product for business needs.
• Accountable for all activities and results of the group and ensure that performance standards are realistically set and attained.
• Actively promote a culture of innovation within the organization.
• Closely interact with senior management on matters affecting the organization managed.
• Partner closely with functional leadership in remote locations, the product management leads to drive the design, development and delivery of the product. This person also needs to work with other internal technology groups, operations and support personnel to understand operational requirements.
• Develop and implement policies and procedures to attain the required service levels to support the business.
• Manages staffing for the team, working directly and closely with HR/Recruiting to hire to plan aggressively
• Directly manages a team of development managers and Technical Leads
• Enforces and augments development standards to establish efficient use of resources.
• Establish measurable goals and objectives for the team to maintain optimal performance and achieve company objectives
• Get extensively involved in matters pertaining to the center and lead various streams of work that help growing the center.
